The New Nigeria People’s Party candidate vying for the Ogun East Senatorial district, Wasiu Adebanjo has shown strong optimism to defeat former governor Gbenga Daniel who is contesting for the same position.

Adebanjo, who spoke with newsmen after clinching the NNPP’s senatorial ticket, insisted that he has what it takes to defeat the former governor in the 2023 general election.

The NNPP senatorial primary election which was held at Solex Hotel, Ijebu Ode area of Ogun state saw Adebanjo emerging as the consensus candidate of NNPP in the senatorial district.

The NNPP candidate said the call for youths in the leadership position boost his morale to challenge the All Progressives Congress candidate, Otunba Gbenga for the senatorial seat.

Adebanjo maintained that he would send the former governor back to the farm, adding that youths are the leaders of today and should be given a chance.

He further noted that old politicians should be retired to stop them from recycling power among themselves.

Adebanjo added, “We thank God for the victory that we won the primary election.

“My next plan is how to do campaign and to move the party forward.

“We all know that APC candidate, Otunba Gbenga Daniel is an old man, about 70 years old, and I am a very young man of 40 years.

“They use to say youth are the leaders of tomorrow. How can a 70 years old man contest against a 40 years old. When do you think we will be youth of tomorrow?

“My advise for APC candidate is to go and rethink because we youth are the leaders of tomorrow. I think we need youth and not an old man.

“He has done his own part and we need youth in this position. If you go anywhere now, you’ll see that people want youth to take the leadership position. All these old people have been doing it and they’ve betrayed us.

“Nigerians want youth and not all these old politicians.

“It is not about being a former governor. I am going to contest and win the seat.

“They have old experience and everything now is about the youth.

“Why are all these old politicians are not ready to leave.”

Meanwhile, barrister John Aina emerged as candidate for Ogun West NNPP senatorial district, while Mr. Kehinde Teluwo as Ogun Central senatorial candidate.
