Ogun LG Pension Bureau Assures Over 13,000 Pensioners On Improved Welfare

The Bureau of Local Government Pensions in Ogun State says it will continue to ensure economic independence and sustainability of viable social system geared towards a more comfortable and fulfilled post service life for over 13, 000 pensioners under its purview from the Local Government Service and Local Government Education Authorities including teaching and non-teaching.

The Permanent Secretary in charge of the Bureau, Mrs. Irene Folasade Kokumo, disclosed this while taking her turn to defend the bureau’s 2021 budget estimate before the members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, led by Hon. Olakunle Sobunkanla, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to Kokumo, it had become imperative for the bureau to sustain effective supervision and prompt remittance of pension deductions under contributory pension scheme to custodians, while encouraging saving culture among improvident individuals by ensuring savings to cater for their livelihood during old age.

To achieve the foregoing, the Permanent Secretary proposed a total budget of N66.4m consisting of N26m for capital projects and the remaining N40m for recurrent expenditure for the next fiscal year.

In a related development, the State Commssioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Afolabi Afuape presented the 2021 budget estimate of the ministry with a renewed assurance of stepping up plans at improving the monitoring of projects across the twenty Local Government Areas, with improvement capacity for the councils’ personnel for efficient service delivery.

Afuape, who therefter presented a total budget of N240.5m for the next fiscal year, with N58.2m to take care of capital projects and N182.2m for recurrent expenditure, noted that the Ministry would elicit further collaboration with the chieftaincy institution through the State Traditional Council to further promote peaceful coexistence to aid good governance in the State.
