In the wake of the devastating Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) explosion, members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Environment conducted an on-site assessment to show solidarity with the victims and advocate for their rights.

Led by Chairman Lawal Samsideen, the lawmakers urged the State and Federal Governments to provide fair compensation to affected residents.

The committee acknowledged the swift response of emergency services but emphasized the need for a comprehensive policy framework to regulate the transportation of CNG products across the state.

Lawmakers Adegoke Adeyanju and Tella Babatunde reassured citizens that the State Assembly is committed to collaborating with the State Government to enhance safety standards and prevent such incidents in the future.

They stressed the importance of strict compliance with environmental and road safety regulations, particularly for heavy-duty trucks carrying hazardous materials, to prevent avoidable tragedies.

In a related development, the House of Assembly has summoned the Permanent Secretary of the State Teaching Service Commission and the Board Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board to appear before the lawmakers on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Assembly Complex to address pressing issues.
