Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have rounded off a two-day retreat on the year 2020 budget estimates with a charge on them to take advantage of the programme to ensure a thorough budget consideration process towards achieving the goal of the Dapo Abiodun led administration for the State in the next fiscal year.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, gave the charge during the retreat held at theTCC Resort and Conference Centre, Ogere Remo.
According to him, the essence of the programme to ensure an overall budget analysis through an interface with experts in budget process as well as relevant government agencies and officials responsible for the budget preparations such as the Ministry of Budget and Planning, the State Accountant General to interface on the need for exchange of ideas on key economic development issues in the budget.
In their presentations at the retreat, Budget Consultants to the National Assembly, Mr. Ben Ekeyi and Hezekiah Olutoye, spoke extensively on Key Concepts: Types, Principles and Objectives of Budget as well as Checklist for Budget, Defence and Bilateral discussion.
On their part, the Consultant to the Governor on Budget, Laolu Olabimtan and the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo did the overview of the year 2020 budget and its Implementation Strategy.
Also, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr . Hassan Adekunle and his State Accountant General counterpart, Mr. Micheal Idowu presented papers on the breakdown and details of the budget,overview of the State Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) and ability of the State to generate adequate revenue to fund the budget.
In another development, Speaker Oluomo hosted a delegation of Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth & Advancement (YIAGA) Africa led by Mrs. Tolulope Famuroti, on a legislative peer review visit to the State House of Assembly.
Oluomo, while assuring them that the ninth legislature in pursuit of a better society for all, would support laws on women empowerment, youth development and child rights, admonishing them to display high sense of integrity, maturity and discipline in their respective legislative endeavours in fulfillment of the Not To Young To Run Policy.
Earlier in her presentation, Mrs. Farotimi remarked that the visit to the State House of Assembly was geared towards promoting synergy among young legislators, while harnessing learning experience in their legislative duties with a view to promoting healthy competitions to aid legislative excellence.
