Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly today passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, describing him as their unanimous choice to lead the State Assembly.

The passage of the resolution followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherif and seconded by Adeleye Lukman with the concurrence of other twenty lawmakers present at a plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Lawmakers including the Deputy Chief Whip, Babatunde Tella and the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye said that the election of the new Speaker, Elemide, was the unanimous decision of the lawmakers, adding that the legislature was at the liberty to effect a change of leadership as lawmakers might so desired.

Earlier, the Minority Leader, Adeleye informed the House of the receipt of a court summon initiated by the impeached Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, which was served on eleven lawmakers, including the Clerk of the House/Head of Legislative Service and the Deputy Clerk regarding the impeachment that took place barely two weeks ago.

Responding, Speaker Elemide applauded his colleague-lawmakers for their firm belief in his leadership, adding that the House under his leadership would continue to be exemplary in the discharge of its constitutional duties.

In another development, the Chairmen of Local Government in the State under the auspices of
Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) led by its Chairman, Emiola Tunde Ghazal paid a congratulatory visit to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide.

Ghazal, who lauded the peaceful conduct of the lawmakers in the change of their leadership and election of a new Speaker, acknowledged that the legislature as an autonomous arm of government had the constitutional right to determine its leadership.

He appreciated the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration for providing an enabling environment for the legislature to thrive, admonishing the new Speaker to sustain the tempo of mutual relationship between all arms of government.

Responding, Speaker Elemide appreciated the Chairmen for identifying with him, saying that the 10th Assembly would continue to be a partner in progress with other arms of government and the Local Government for the overall development of the State.
