Ogun Lawmakers Meet Works, Environment Commissioners to Address Flash Floods

The Ogun State House of Assembly held a meeting with the Commissioners for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, and Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, to discuss ways to mitigate flash floods in the state.

Led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the lawmakers urged the commissioners to intensify efforts to fix roads, clear drainages, and maintain water channels across the state.

They also emphasized the need for synergy among agencies, particularly with the Physical Planning Ministry, to ensure compliance with building regulations and prevent flooding.

The Speaker called for vigorous sensitization on flood prevention and requested regular updates on road construction and rehabilitation progress.

Lawmakers also sought a comprehensive list of constructed roads for effective monitoring and assessment.

While acknowledging the government’s efforts in road construction and rehabilitation, the lawmakers encouraged the Ministry of Environment to intensify efforts in preventing flash floods, clearing drainages, and dredging waterways.
