The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has praised the Abeokuta North Local Government for its judicious use of state government grants on projects that benefit the community.
The committee, led by Vice Chairman Hon. Dickson Awolaja, commended the local government’s efforts during a budget performance appraisal session for all local government councils in the state, covering the period between March 2023 and March 2024.
The committee noted that Abeokuta North Local Government, under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Ayoola Oluajo (represented by his Vice), had invested the grants received from the state government on projects with direct positive impacts on residents’ lives.
Other committee members, including Honourables Tunde Tella, Fola Salami, and Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, also acknowledged the council’s effective resource management and requested a comprehensive list of projects and revenue collected during the period.
During the session, the committee also reviewed the budget performance of Abeokuta South Local Government Council, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Council, and Odeda Local Government Council.
While assessing Abeokuta South’s performance, the lawmakers sought clarification on the council’s expenditure of 50% of its internal revenue on running costs and requested additional supporting documents.
Odeda Local Government Council Chairman, Dr. (Mrs) Waliat Adeyemo, presented her council’s performance report, and the committee requested more supporting documents related to the lotting of unserviceable properties.
The committee’s appraisal of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Council’s budget performance also aimed to ensure transparency and accountability in local government operations.
This scrutiny by the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs demonstrates their commitment to ensuring that local government councils utilize resources effectively and prioritize projects that benefit the community.
