In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure judicious utilization of government resources, the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption, led by Chairman Hon. Damilare Bello, has conducted a comprehensive verification visit to Primary Health Care Centres across the state.
Accompanied by Honourables Wahab Haruna, Fola Salami, Yusuf Amosun, Awolaja Dickson, and Waliu Owode, the lawmakers assessed the rehabilitation work done at various health facilities, including those in Ita-Osu, Ijebu-Ode, Imosan, Odogbolu, Agura, Sagamu, Ojugboro, Abeokuta North, Isaga Owode, Yewa South, and Wasinmi, Ewekoro.
The visit, conducted in company of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, and other top officials in the State Health Sector, aimed to verify the level of work done in relation to the released funds during the 2022 financial year, as recommended in the 2021/2022 Auditor General’s reports.
By conducting this on-the-spot assessment, the Committee seeks to ensure that contractors have delivered quality work, and that government resources have been utilized effectively. This initiative demonstrates the lawmakers’ commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved healthcare services for the people of Ogun State.
The verification visit also provided an opportunity for the Committee to make necessary recommendations to the State Primary Health Care Board and State Ministry of Health, aimed at enhancing financial accountability and project monitoring, which would in turn aid quality healthcare delivery for the benefit of the people.
In her remarks, Dr. Tomi Coker applauded the lawmakers for the verification visit, describing it as a more independent audit exercise that would enable the Ministry have first-hand recommendations from the Assembly to further improve on the ministry’s activities and programmes.
Hon. Damilare Bello noted that the visit availed the Committee the opportunity to verify the level of work done in line with the recommendations of the 2021/2022 Auditor General’s reports, adding that such became necessary to ensure the judicious utilization of government resources.
