Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption (PAAC) has commenced the consideration of Year 2018/2019 audit report of the Auditor General for State and the financial statements of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) with a task to them to further put up strategies aimed at promoting accountability and transparency in their financial transactions.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, gave the charge while leading other members of the Committee to examine the Audit report of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Hon. Lamidi stated that agencies of government must continue to uphold the principles of accountability and prudency in the implementation of the appropriation law, with a view to preventing waste and blocking leakages to have value for money in the running of government business
He also advised officials in charge of financial management to avoid errors, especially in the computation of financial expenses, while ensuring an up-to-date asset registers to document all tangible and intangible properties in their custody for asset tracking as well as insurance for the asset where necessary.
Commending the officials from the office of the State Auditor General for ensuring a thorough job in auditing the financial records of the MDAs in conformity with the Appropriation Law passed by the Assembly, the lawmaker warned that appropriate sanctions awaited any erring official(s) found wanting in the process of promoting transparency in the running of government business.
