In a bid to prevent a cholera outbreak in Ogun State, the government has made it compulsory for all garages, markets, and public functions to have functional toilets with running water.
This directive is part of the government’s proactive measures to ensure public health and safety.
According to Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the provision of toilets at these public places is crucial in preventing the spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
“All houses MUST have toilets. Each house without a toilet should identify a room to be converted to a toilet. ” Residents are given three to six months of grace for compliance.
“All petrol stations MUST have functional public toilets with running water as part of their corporate social responsibilities.
“All garages and parks MUST have functional toilets with running water.
“All markets MUST have functional public toilets with running water.
“Mechanic villages MUST have functional toilet with running water.
“All schools (public and private) should have public toilets with running water.”
“The government cannot afford to toy with the health of its citizens, especially at public places where people gather in large numbers,”
“We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all, and this directive is a step in the right direction.”, Akinmade said.
“The government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, and we will spare no effort in preventing a cholera outbreak in Ogun State”.
“We urge all residents to cooperate with us in this effort by taking the necessary precautions and adhering to the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Environment”.
“Let us work together to keep Ogun State safe and healthy”, added Kayode Akinmade.
The Ministry of Environment has been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with this directive, and defaulters will face the wrath of the law.
