Ogun Govt Extols Lions Club’s Support In Health Sector

Ogun government has said the recent renovation of the  Eye centre, state hospital, Ota, by the Lions Club International, will go a long way in providing the needed eye care service delivery and compliment Government’s efforts in the eradication of sight related issues in the state.

The Deputy Governor Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele who made this known during the Official Commissioning of the Upgraded  Lions Eye Centre, State Hospital, Ota added that its strategic location would serve not only Ogun state, but also neighbouring States such as Lagos which is closely bordered to the Ota township.

Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele a lion herself noted that Lionism was about encouraging service minded individuals to give back to their community without financial rewards, encourage efficiency, promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, public work and private endeavours.

Commending the project team for delivering the project in record time, despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic posed world over, she revealed that the renovation and upgrading was a practical example of what the Lions Club International was all about.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr Nofiu Aigoro, appreciated the NGO for complimenting efforts of State government in transforming the state health sector, requesting for more assistance from public spirited individuals and NGOs, as government cannot do it all alone.

The District Governor 404B1 Nigeria, Lion Lynda Oluremi Odunbaku, in her address, said the upgrading of the eye centre to modern standards by the Lions Club International after it was constructed and commissioned in 2007 as an eye bank and research centre,  became necessary due to advancement in technology and to enable the people have access to treatment and constant check-up.

Also speaking, the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, said many people take for granted the importance of an eye centre until they have issues with their sight. He appealed to other service organizations to support by providing other facilities needed to make the eye centre function optimally.

Highlight of the event was presentation of award of excellence to the Deputy governor as a worthy ambassador of Lions Club International.
