Ogun Govt Committed To Payment Of Gratuities, As Bureau Earmarkes Over N16bn For Pensions, Others

Ogun State Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro has reassured retired public servants in the State that government remained committed to the payment of their entitlements and has fulfilled its promise on the quarterly payments of the outstandings scheduled for the outgoing financial year.

Dr. Aigoro, who disclosed this while fielding questions from the State lawmakers during the on going budget defence at the Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, explained that considering the volume of the outstandings, government had promised that the amount been set aside to offset the entitlements would be increased as the State economy improves.

He pointed out that government was aware of the outstandings it inherited from the past administrations and efforts were being intesified to offset them.

Defending the budget estimate of his office, the Head of Service stated that Bureau of Service Matters plan to spend over N247m in the next fiscal year, out of which N94m would go for personnel, N70m for overhead and N83m was earmarked for capital expenditure.

Also, the Bureau of State Pensions disclosed that would continue to sustain the economic independence of 14,622 pensioners of the State by boosting access to necessary information on pension related issues, hence it planned to expend a total budget estimate of N16.052bn on pensions and gratuities of civil and public servants next year.

Giving the breakdown of the amount, he stated that a total of N14.052bn would go for the payment of pensions and N2bn would take care of gratuities.

Other agencies that defended their budget estimates before the lawmakers included the Public Service Transformation Office, Bureau of Establishments and Training as well as the Civil Service Commission.
