Ogun state government has called for more Public Private Partnership (PPP) to support its efforts at improving the state education sector.
The State Deputy Governor who represented the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at the commissioning of a block of four classrooms, Toilet facility and Borehole with overhead Tank, said that for government to fulfil all its obligations to its citizens, more public partnership participation is required.
Governor Abiodun who said his government was all inclusive, appreciated Build a School Initiative in Africa (BASIA) for it continued support at providing conducive environment for learning to thrive in the state
“Our Administration is passionate about education, this informed the recent appreciation of outstanding teachers and learners of Ogun descent, who we believe have put Ogun on the global pedestal” he said
While noting that education remains one of the biggest industries in the state bequeathed by the founding fathers of the state, the Governor added that his administration will not renege on its efforts in providing quality education at all time for the citizens of the state.
He enjoined the school management, students and community to put to good use, the project, ensure proper management and maintenance of the facilities.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye, lauded the donor for supporting government in its efforts at transforming the state education sector as no government can provide the wherewithal for it citizens, noting that the humanitarian project will help improve education standard in the school.
The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman, Dr Femi Majekodunmi, represented by Mrs Kemi Adeogun, appealed to well meaning individuals to support the building our future together agenda of the present administration by providing more educational facilities that will aid teaching and learning in the state.
The Donors, Dr Victor and Kate Ukorebi commended the state governments giant strides in education sector, explaining that Statistic shows that Nigeria’s education system is over burdened and lack adequate infrastructures, which they said, propelled the organisation to support government by providing facilities to cater for improved teaching and learning in the state.
Olota of Ota, Oba Prof. Abdulkabir Obalanlege, opined that funding education cannot be left to government alone, due to paucity of funds, noting that this issue was not limited to Nigeria or Ogun state alone, but a global challenge.
Head teacher, St. Peter African Church School 1, Iyesi Ota, Mrs Adetokunbo Oresanwo, appreciated the foundation for the gesture, saying for years the school has suffered continuous dilapitation, which has frustrated teachers morale hitherto also affecting its learners.
Also speaking the Chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the School, Alhaji Wadudu Suleiman, appreciated the Deputy Governor for facilitating the project and the donor for the gesture, adding that the school which was established in 1925, needs more government support in the provision of classrooms.
