The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the construction of five additional roads across the state, as announced by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, during a press conference on Thursday.
The newly approved roads include Alagbole-Ajuwon, Akute-Ajuwon, Toyin-Gowahercules Road, and Oke-Aro, all located in the Ifo Local Government Area within the Ogun Central Senatorial District. Additional roads are Oke-Erinja and Erinja in Yewa South, as well as Awokoya Road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.
Engr. Akinsanya also addressed the state government’s plan to resume the reconstruction of the remaining 17 kilometers of the Akute-Ijoko Road. This project will be divided into two phases: the first phase from Akute to Oke Aro will address flooding issues, followed by the second phase from Oke Aro to Ijoko.
Regarding the Lagos-Ota-Sango-Abeokuta Road, Akinsanya revealed that the reconstruction contract was awarded to Craneburg Construction Company by the State Executive Council on March 28. The contract was accepted in April, and administrative processes at the federal level are ongoing, with the hope that construction will commence soon. The project will be executed in phases, starting from Sango to Abeokuta, with four construction teams working simultaneously.
“In addition to the state’s efforts, the governor has facilitated more projects with the federal government, including the Laderin Train Station Road project”
“This project will be executed in two phases, from Laderin to the train station, with the channelization of stormwater to the drainages”, Akinsanya stated
He highlighted the governor’s significant involvement in 14 different ongoing projects across the state, such as the Ilisan Market Road to Babcock.
Furthermore, Akinsanya mentioned the ministry’s collaboration with the federal government to rehabilitate an additional 21 roads across the state, starting with areas like Ado Odo/Ota, Yewa North and South, and Abeokuta North and South.
“One of the key projects where the governor has played a major role is the reconstruction of the Sango-Atan-Owode-Idi-Iroko Road”.
“This project is ongoing, with two bridges being constructed to alleviate traffic issues, particularly at Oju-Ore and the roundabout, and will continue to the Idi-Iroko border”, Akinsanya noted.
Engr. Akinsanya attributed road damages in the state to improper waste disposal and construction on waterways, which lead to flooding.
He assured citizens that the government is aware of road conditions in all local government areas and will prioritize repairs based on specific criteria.
He appealed for patience as the government works to improve the state’s infrastructure.
