Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has charged engineers in Nigeria to foster a strong sense of identity under a common purpose, not to allow religious, ethnic, or regional differences to divide them, calling on them to also be involved in active politics.

The Deputy Governor stated these in her address at the opening ceremony of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) 31st Engineering Assembly in Abuja with the theme:’ Entrenching and Strengthening Engineering Practitioners: Code of Conduct for Resilient Engineering Practice in Nigeria’

Engr. Salako-Oyedele said by ensuring a common front as engineers, they can create a unified ground that transcends divisive politics, calling on them to embrace the values of inclusivity, tolerance and understanding.

“My advocacy is rooted in the belief that engineers possess unique skills, perspective, and expertise that can bring about remarkable progress in our nation’s development. By actively engaging in politics, Engineers will have opportunities to hold elected office and occupy key positions in government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), where we can apply our proficiencies to shape policies, regulations, and projects that will drive socio-economic growth and nation-building” she said.

While urging engineers to make their voices heard and take proactive steps towards shaping a future where engineering and engineers take center stage in the nation’s development agenda, she commended COREN President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Abubakar, members of the council, and the team that made this year’s assembly a reality.
