The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Command, has announced a significant seizure of 103 items, including cannabis sativa and used pneumatic tyres, with a total duty-paid value of ₦380,370,911.
Comptroller James Ojo, the Customs Area Controller, revealed this during a press briefing in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, following the interception of the illegal items at various locations within the state.
The seized items include 90 sacks and 1,309 parcels of cannabis sativa, among others. Comptroller Ojo emphasized the harmful effects of marijuana on the lives of its consumers, particularly youths, and urged them to avoid psychoactive drugs that can harm their lives. He assured that all avenues for drug entry into the country are being blocked.
The comptroller also expressed concern over the influx of used pneumatic tyres into the country, which are deemed unsuitable for Nigerian highways.
In addition to the seizure, the command generated ₦14,628,661 in revenue from baggage assessment and auction sales of petroleum products.
