The state of the Health Centre at Orirenitemi CDA, Albarka Area, Baalesi Town, IFEDARA-Opeji Area CDC Via Bode – Olude , Abeokuta under Opeji Area LCDA, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State leaves much to be desired as the state of the only Primary Health Centre that serves more than 50 communities is extremely bad as well as the road leading to the government owned hospital.
It is worthy of mention that inadequate manpower is not the only challenges facing health centres. The building housing the centre is in a state of disrepair.
A visit to the hospital by one of Tropic Reporters correspondent revealed that the unkept environment surrounding the centre subjected it to the invasion by rodents and insects as a portion of the roof as learnt caved in during a rainstorm, while the ceilings and the widows are in dire need of attention to prevent them from falling off.
Tropic Reporters gathered that workers and patients manage a portion of the centre facility which was repaired by the community and later taken over by the LCDA which pose a lot of danger to those who seek healing.
The Chairman of Ifedara-Opeji Area CDC, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab who spoke to Tropic Reporters correspondent, said that the facility did not get any attention not to talk about the supply of medical aids needed by the health workers as it has been greatly abandoned by local or Ogun state governments.
“The community do not get enough attention from the government. You can see the ceiling and how bad it is. The facility was repaired because it was occupied by disgruntled elements who turned the location to perpetrate secret activities. That is how the hospital workers manage it when it rains and there is no light, water facility among other things lacking in the centre, ” Dapo Wahab lamented.
Another resident who spoke with Tropic Reporters on the condition of anonymity said, it is sad that the centre which is in a strategic location in the community is a shame because its building have been left to deteriorate. It was added that it is doubtful if enlightened persons can go there among the residents for quality medical treatment.
Tropic Reporters further observed that aside the infrastructure decay, there are insufficient medical personnel as the medical centre has just six personnel.
The residents therefore urged the state government led by Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun, MFR to come into their way as urgent intervention and attention is needed to revive the deteriorating condition of the medical facility serving lots of Communities in the area as the healthy condition of the people should remain paramount to any government administration.
