The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo has reiterated that the current government in the State remained committed to running free qualitative education programme in all its primary and secondary schools in the State.
Oluomo made the remarks while reacting to the submission of his Deputy, Oludare Kadiri, who reported that some parents of pupils in some parts of his Constituency complained of alleged collection of some levies from school pupils.
The Speaker clarified that even though, the free education programme subsists, but that did not preclude the Parents -Teacher Association (PTA) of each school, who were putting in place certain projects in the school from doing so, noting that whatever fees charged by the PTA which was subject to approval by the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology should not stop any pupil from enjoying access to free education in the State.
According to him, no school principal or official should on account of such fee, send children away from attending classes, as the State was committed to running free education at the primary and secondary levels.
Hon. Kadiri later laid two petitions on behalf of Ifelodun Youth vanguards consisting of communities in Oru- Awa- Ilaporu and another from a former lawmaker, Hon. Ismail Sansa.
In another development, Speaker Oluomo has extended invitation to stakeholders in the sports and allied sectors for a public hearing on two bills including the State Sports Trust Funds and State Sports Commission Laws on holding on Wednesday, 4th December, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to the Speaker, the forum was meant to harness inputs and contributions of all relevant stakeholders with a view to having all-encompassing bills to allow for the development of sporting activities, infrastructure and equipment with the involvement of major players in the private sector.
