OGUN ASSEMBLY TASKS WATER CORPORATION ON IMPROVED WATER SUPPLY, IGR

Ogun State House of Assembly has challenged the management of the State Water Corporation to restrategize at ensuring improved service delivery with a view to increasing its revenue to meet operational and maintenance costs of the agency.

The  Chairman, House Committee on Oil, Gas, Energy, Water Resources resources and Rural Development, Hon Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye, threw the challenge while appraising the budget performance of the corporation at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. 

Oladunjoye, in company of other members of the committee including Honourables Musefiu Lamidi, Sikiratu Ajibola and Ademola Adeniran, sought for improved water supply to all parts of the State, assuring that the Assembly was ready to partner with the Corporation to promote efficiency in service delivery, while enhancing revenue generation to the Corporation.

Also speaking, a member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Hon. Modupe Mujota, urged the Management of the Corporation to live up to its responsibility at justifying government human and material investments through quality service.

Responding,  the General Manager of the corporation, Engr. Maku Oluseye  assured that the corporation would redouble its efforts at meeting the yearnings of the populace, especially as the ongoing consultancy activities would enhance the water sector governance in the State. 

He added that contract for rehabilitation of the barrage under the State Government /AFD funded project was ongoing to increase water supply, disclosing that the Corporation had generated over N58m between January and June, 2019.

The Committee also appraised the budget performance of the State Ministry of Rural Development, where the Director of Rural Electrification, Engr. Rasaq Ojetola, said that the Ministry had secured approval to sink solar powered boreholes in 15 rural communities which were to be implemented in the ongoing quarter.

Rural Asset Agricultural and Marketing Project (RAAMP) and the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency also have their budget performance appraised by the Committee.
