Ogun Assembly Requests Detailed Financial Records On Projects From Housing Ministry

Ogun State House of Assembly through the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption today examined the financial records of the State Ministry of Housing and State Housing Project with a request for an up to date financial records and other financial statements in response to audit queries recorded between 2017 and 2019 financial years. This was in continuation of the State House of Assembly’s constitutional role of examining financial records of Government agencies with a view to promoting accountability and transparency.

The House Committee led by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, who reeled out the audit infractions of the ministry to the Ministry’s management team led by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Arch. Sunday Oladipupo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta also sought for the documents showcasing financial inflows and outflows of the Ministry including the details of projects carried out between 2018-2019 including locations and contract costs as well as terms of engagements to be submitted on or before November 23rd, 2020 and reappear on Friday, 27th November, 2020.

According to Lamidi, the Auditor General’s report discovered procedural defects including undue retirement of capital expenditures as payments vouchers were neither satisfactorily retired nor retired at all, likewise the non provision of up-to-date fixed assets register.

Pointing out the need to improve on the Ministry’s revenue generation during the period under review, the House Committee noted that there were records of misapplication of funds which were in contravention of the State Appropriation Law and budget control system.

Responding, Oladipo assured the lawmakers of the timely submission of the required documents towards achieving a seamless exercise.
