OGUN ASSEMBLY PASSES SECURITY TRUST FUND, OGROMA AMENDMENT BILLS

Date:

Reading time: 2 Minutes

The Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed two bills including; State Security Trust Fund (Amendment) Law, 2019 and the State Road Management Agency (Amendment) Law, 2019 barely twenty-one days after the Assembly acknowledged the receipt of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun’s proposal on the executive bills.

The passage of the bills at a plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta followed the  presentation of report by the Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties and Parastatals, Adeniran Ademola while his Works and Infrastructure counterpart, Abayomi Fasuwa, presented his Committee report on the State Road Management Agency (amendment) law before the lawmakers.

The chairmen, thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the reports, seconded by Hon. Wahab Haruna and Oludaisi Elemide respectively and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote; after which the bill was later read and adopted Clause- by –Clause by the Committee of the Whole House.

Subsequently, the motion for the third reading of the bills was later moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Abdul Oladunjoye, seconded by Honourables Adeyemi Ademuyiwa and Ganiyu Oyedeji respectively, while the Ag. Clerk of the Assembly, ‘Deji Adeyemo, did the third reading of the bills.

The long titles of the bills read: “HB No 02/OG/2019- A Bill for a Law to amend the Ogun State Security Trust Fund Law, 2011” and “H.B No. 003/OG/2019- A Bill to Amend the Ogun State Road Management Agency, 2006 and the amendment thereto of 2007”.

Responding, Speaker Oluomo, thereafter directed that the clean copies of the bills be forwarded to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

It would be recalled that the lawmakers in the previous week deliberated on the bills during the second reading with a position that the trust fund amendment law, when operational would help strengthen security operations by boosting the existing security trust fund to promote efficiency in security management, just as the amendment on OGROMA law would widen the scope of operations  of the agency leading to the creation of Public Works Agency for the indigenization of professionalism in the maintenance of public infrastructure.
