Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution canvassing for more strategies at exploring the tourism potentials abound in the State to further generate revenue to government coffers, thereby boosting the State’s economy.
The passage of the resolution titled “H.R. 011/OG/2020- Report of the House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism in respect of the Commitee’s Tour to Tourist Sites in Ogun State” followed the presentation of the report of the Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism on tour of tourist sites in the State led Hon. Yusuf Adejojo, who moved for its adoption, seconded by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.
The Majority Leader, Sheriff Yusuf thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the Committee’s recommendations and seconded by Hon Kemi Oduwole to the effect that the tourist sites should be made more functional with the aid of private partnership capable of providing more employment opportunities to the teeming populace, while propagating the cultural values and rich values of the State to the global community.
Calling for the establishment of tourism offices across all Local Government Councils for the discovery of more potential tourist sites, the Assembly posited that such sites could be developed to attract more tourists and visitors to engender pleasure, education and economic development in the State.
The report partly reads, ” that the government should put in place a policy that will encourage private and corporate organisations to invest in tourism. Such policy should ensure that private and corporate tourist centres be supported technically and professionally”.
