Ogun Assembly Marks First Year With 20 Bills,15 Resolutions, Others

As the ninth Assembly in Ogun State marks its first legislative year, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo says the State Legislature has so far passed 20 bills and 15 motions into resolutions.

Oluomo said this while reeling out the achievements of the legislative session under his leadership at a special plenary to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Assembly, saying that the lawmakers immediately after their inauguration last year swung into action at providing the conducive ambience required to enable the executive arm achieve its lofty visions for the State.

He added that the Assembly which found it expedient to brace up for the task of breaking new grounds in its bid to contribute her quota towards the development of the State, had been able to perform all its legislative functions including lawmaking, oversight, quasi-judicial functions and other duties to the best of her ability.

He pointed out that in spite the heterogeneous nature of political party representation in the Assembly, it has been maintaining harmonious relationship with other arms of government which had reflected in the level of achievements being recorded by the Prince Dapo Abiodun -led administration.

In their separate submissions, other lawmakers expressed appreciation to their constituents for support being enjoyed so far, calling for more developmental projects including roads, more health facilities, construction of culverts and drainages to prevent flooding and aid human and vehicular movements as well as the restoration of electricity in some communities cut off from the electricity distribution companies years back amongst others to improve the living standard of the people.

They commended their political leaders, traditional rulers and colleague-lawmakers for support and good working relationship, with a promise to further improve on their activities through sponsoring of more people-oriented legislations.

In another development, two bills including: The Community Development Association Law of Ogun State, 2020 and The Animal Grazing and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law of Ogun State, 2020 scaled first reading.

The bills with long title “H.B. No 044/OG/2020- a Bill for a law to provide for the registration of Community Development Associations and for the Matters Incidental and Connected therewith”, as well as “H.B. No. 045/OG/2020- a bill for a law to regulate Animal grazing establishment of cattle Ranches in designated Grazing areas of Ogun State and for other matters Incidental thereto or Connected therewith”, were read for the first time by the Clerk, Deji Adeyemo before the lawmakers.
