Ogun Assembly Constitutes Committee To Address Illegal Ticketing

Ogun State House of Assembly has inaugurated a tripartite Ad-hoc Commitee comprising Industry, Trade and Investment, Finance and Appropriation as well as Public Accounts to examine all petitions on illegal revenue and ticketing scheme being operated in the various local government areas and at the State level.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, who announced the membership of the House Committees, added that the Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri would be the Chairman, imploring all the affected individuals and groups in the State to forward their petitions on such illegal act to the Assembly through its Clerk.

According to Oluomo, the Assembly had been inundated with avalanche of petitions in the previous weeks on over taxation, ticketting and illegal revenue collection which had put untold hardship on the people, hence the need to set up an ad-hoc committee to address the issue within two weeks.

In another development, the Assembly has said that the proposed People with Disability Law of Ogun State, 2020 when operational will curb all forms discrimination and stereotype against people with special needs with a view to giving them unhindered access to basic amenities including healthcare system, employment and quality education.

Lawmakers including the sponsor Sikirat Ajibola and Honourables Bolanle Ajayi, Atinuke Bello as well as Modupe Mujota, who took turn to contribute to the debate during the second reading of the bill, posited that the bill would create enabling environment for people with disability and address issues of discrimination against them.

They noted that the people living with disabilities remained an integral part of the society, which must be duly catered for in order for them to contribute their quota to societal development in line with the policy of the United Nations of exploring abilities in disability.

Contributing, Honourables Musefiu Lamidi, Damilola Soneye, Ganiyu Oyedeji and Kemi Oduwole, stressed the need for the discovery of the hidden talents possessed by the people with special needs, with a call for structural adjustment of public and private infrastructure to suite their peculiarities, while assisting through due recognitions in public institutions.

Responding, Speaker Oluomo canvassed for the support of other lawmakers to ensure the speedy passage of the bill, just as he implored Governor Abiodun to give quick assent to the legislation when passed for the category of individuals, whom he described an integral part of the populace to be well catered for.

He thereafter committed the bill to the Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development for further legislative actions.
