Ogun State House of Assembly today granted a pardon to the Transition Chairman of Remo North, Abiodun Somoye and his Waterside Counterpart, Femi Onanuga through a house resolution thus, confirming the extension of their tenure as transition chairmen.
The resolution titled: “HR. No. 084/OG/2020- Report of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on the confirmation of extension of tenure of office of Local Government Transition Chairmen” was passed today at a plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, at the Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.
The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the report of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs by the Chairman, Hon. Akeem Balogun, who thereafter moved the motion for its adoption, seconded by the Minority Leader, Ganiyu Oyedeji and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.
Consequently, the Speaker directed that before the resumption of the transition Chairmen on Monday, 17th August, 2020 the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Afolabi Afuape, should immediately convey further reconciliation meeting between Onanuga, the traditional rulers, political leaders all within his domain with a view to promoting peace and tranquility.
According to the Speaker, “as much as we want to honour the Governor, respect his views, support him in the administration of the State for the promotion of good governance, equity, justice, inclusiveness and his Omoluabi style of administration, we shall remain resolute in maintaining the honour and integrity of all members of the House at all time”.
Also, the Assembly passed another resolution directing the State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, to convey a meeting between his ministry, Finance Ministry, State Internal Revenue Service, representatives of transportation unions, Chairmen of House Committees on Transportation, Finance and Appropriation, to work out the modalities of handing over of tickets directly to the unions and the mode of remitting appropriate amount into the coffers of the State Government.
The passage of the resolution titled: “HR. No. 085/OG/2020- Report of the Ad-Hoc Committee set up to investigate all petitions received on illegal revenue collection and fake ticketing in the State”, was consequent upon the presentation of the interim report of the Assembly’s ad-hoc committee presented by the Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri, who doubles as the Chairman. Kadiri thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the report, seconded by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherif and supported affirmatively by other lawmakers.
The report directed that all alleged cases of fraud in the parks and garages across the State be referred to the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption for further investigations, while directing Engr. Dairo to take sole control of all transport activities in the State, with all unions and associations henceforth making their payments and remittances of ticketing in advance into the State coffers.
The Assembly further called for the enactment of the transport sector law that would regulate and harmonize all its allied activities with all unions made to re-register with the Ministry of Transportation in line with international best practices and the nation’s corporate laws.
