Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of the Commissioner-nominees: Mrs. Olufemi Ilori and Jamiu Odetogun, whose names were contained in a correspondence recently sent to the Assembly by Governor Dapo Abiodun barely 24 hours after they were screened by the lawmakers.

The approval was sequel to the adoption of the report of the Committee of the Whole House Chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo as presented by his Deputy, Akeem Balogun, after which the Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff moved the motion for its adoption, which was seconded by Hon. Kemi Oduwole.

Consequently, the confirmation of the nominees was thereafter done through a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.

According to the report presented by the Deputy Speaker, the Committee of the Whole House screened and found the nominees to be eligible and suitable to hold the Office of Commissioner in the State, in consonance with the provision of the 1999 Constitution (as altered)

It would be recalled that the Lawmakers led by Speaker Oluomo during the screening challenged the nominees on effective collaboration for improved service delivery.

He encouraged them to synergize with the Assembly as well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to ensure the over success of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration in the State if confirmed and eventually sworn in by the Governor.

In another development, the State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-corruption led by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi has summoned a former Director of Finance and Accounts in the State Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Taiwo Ilo to appear before the Committee to clarify some infractions observed on some expenditure lines of the Ministry as contained in its 2020 audit report.

The aforementioned officer was directed to appear before the Committee with other principal officers of the Ministry on the 24th, August, 2022 by 11am at room 215, Assembly’s Complex, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.

The Chairman, while issuing the directive during the consideration of the 2020 audit reports of the Ministry, said that the concerned officials were to provide further clarifications on the record books of the Ministry before the lawmakers.

Lamidi thereafter asked them to provide supporting documents with details on the construction of Ifo fire service station, procurement of fire service tenders as well as analysis on special project and assignments (homegrown feeding program) and the full details of what constituted “other expenses” in the Ministry’s record book.

All documents requested including invoices, vouchers and receipts according to the Committee should be submitted to the Assembly on or before Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022.
