Ogun Assembly Charges Ministry On Initiatives For Grassroot Development

The Ogun State House of Assembly has tasked the State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives to look inwards towards delivering on its mandate through result driven initiatives to further development at the grassroot level ahead of post Covid 19 pandemic .

The Chairman, Committee on Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Yusuf Amosun, threw the challenge, while appraising the budget performance of the Ministry in Abeokuta.

He stressed the need ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the people, the lawmakers admonished the ministry to improve on its activities of enhancing grassroots empowerment and socio-economic transformation of the State through the framework of Community Development Associations (CDAs).

Responding, the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Ganiu Hamzat, sought for the legislative backing of the Assembly to ensure the swift passage of the proposed Community Development Bill, 2020 with a view to improving on its activities, thereby enhancing good governance at the grassroot level.

In a related development, members of the House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs led by Hon. Akeem Balogun, have appraised the budget performance of Odogbolu and Sagamu Local Government Councils for the year 2020 financial year, with a charge on them to evolve strategies towards implementing developmental programmes and projects for the grassroot people.

Balogun also assured that a legislation to harmonise revenue system for a centralized revenue management for the advancement of socio-economic well-being of the people.

Earlier in their presentations, the Chairman of Transition Committee in Odogbolu, Mr. Obafemi Onakoya, who reeled out the achievements of the Council from January to June, 2020, noted that a total receipt including internal revenue, grants and returns from federation account was put at N732.7m, while his Sagamu counterpart, Mr. Banjo Olugbenga returned N684.2m for the same period.

Also, the House Committee on Youth, Sports and Employment Generations led by Hon. Sola Adams assessed the 2020 budget of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, State Sports Council, Gateway Stadia Ilaro and Sagamu as well as Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
