Ogun State House of Assembly has decried the high rate at which some residents of the State violate COVID-19 protocols in the State, especially motorcycle riders and passengers as well as some motorists, who often convey more than the expected number of passengers.
The Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, who raised the concern while responding to the remarks of a member representing Odeda State Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, under Personal Explanation during the Plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, called for strict adherence to all safety measures by all residents in view of the effect of the second wave of the pandemic.
Consequently, Oluomo directed the Clerk of the House and Head of Legislative Service, Deji Adeyemo to send correspondences to appropriate agencies in the transportation sector including transport unions on the need to reinforce sensation against the spread of the pandemic and ensure strict adherence to the Covid 19 protocol in the State to further contain its spread in the State.
According to the Speaker, there was need to ensure the enforcement of the measures including reduction in number of passenger, wearing of facemask and maintenance of social-distancing amongst others.
Earlier, Hon. Elemide had reported the non-compliance to the Assembly’s resolution earlier passed on the need for motorcycle operators to convey a passenger at a time to flatten the curve of the pandemic.
In another development, Elemide submitted a petition written by the Gbonogun Joint Community Development Association, titled: ‘Save the Lives and Future of Our Children’, about the unlawful invasion of the 25 joint communities proposed land for primary school by some unknown land grabbers, just as his Ijebu East counterpart, Hon. Sola Adams submitted another written by Olukayode Adeyemi Ayanberu family of Ijebu-Imusin with the petition in respect of “Threat to Life by Folarin Tanimowo and Others”.
Also, a member representing Ijebu-North I State Constituency, Hon. Sylvester Abiodun tendered a petition on behalf of “K.B Ogunbiyi of Kayefi Chambers against Chief Samson Adetola Dosunmu, Chairman, Process Wood Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria and his cohorts for assaults, threats to life, malicious damage, conduct likely to lead to absolute breakdown of law and order, forgery and brazen act of defrauding the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Responding, Speaker Oluomo charged the petitions to the House Committees on Lands and Housing as well as that of Finance and Appropriation for further legislative actions.
