Ogun State House of Assembly has approved the revised election guidelines requested by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), in line with the provisions of Section 3(i)(i) and 5 of the State Regulations Approval Law, 2020.
The approval followed the presentation of the report of the Committee of the Whole House by Deputy Speaker Hon. Bolanle Ajayi, at a plenary session presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Deputy Whip Hon. Tella Babatunde moved the motion for adoption, seconded by Hon. Damilare Bello, and was unanimously supported by all lawmakers through a voice vote.
Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff later moved the motion converting the Committee’s recommendations into the House resolution, seconded by Minority Leader Lukmon Adeleye and supported by the Whole House through a unanimous voice vote.
Earlier, Speaker Elemide acknowledged and read a letter from OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu, requesting approval for the revised guidelines.
In another development, Speaker Elemide acknowledged receipt of a correspondence from Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, proposing a bill to improve electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in Ogun State.
The letter reads: “I am pleased to forward the above captioned bill through your good self, to the House of Assembly, for due consideration and passage into Law. The Bill, approved at the Executive Council Meeting on August 1, 2024, is necessitated by the Passage of the Electricity Act 2023, empowering states to provide a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for the power sector.”
