ABEOKUTA – Brothers Across Nigeria (BAN), Balize chapter, Ogun State on Wednesday donated writing materials and school uniforms to over 200 pupils in Owu Baptist Day Primary school, Ita-Iyalode, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The gift items worth over N250,000 was presented by the group president, Akinbode Akinyomade as part of activities marking the annual celebration of the brothers.
Akinbode said the group since founded in 1972 has tremendously impacted in uplifting the socio-economic of the state.
He added that, the objectives of the group was to promote individual idea and contribute to the development progress of the society.
While presenting the items to the Assistant Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Rafiu Busirat, Akinbode said the group chose Owu Baptist Day Primary school as a result of academic performance of the pupils.
“We have come here today as part of our contribution in enhancing basic elementary education in public schools to donate these writing materials to encourage you in your academic excellence. We have heard much about you and we believe you will continue to be good ambassadors of this school.
“What we have brought to you, use it judiciously to enhance your academic performance. We are aware of your academic brilliant performance, and we want you to continue in order to excel in your future career”.
Akinbode therefore urged government to look inward into developing elementary education.
In her response, the Assistant head teacher, Mrs. Rafiu Busirat Mojisola commended the group for giving back to the society, saying the items would ameliorate the hardship of the parents in buying writing materials for the pupils.
“It is a good idea for bringing such items to the school, because due to the economic situation in the country, things are very difficult for most of the parents to buy common pencil and exercise books for the pupils.
“We are very grateful for the kind gesture and pray God continue to enrich the group “.
Mrs. Rafiu however called on other well-to-do individuals and NGOs to assist government in providing quality and affordable education in the state.
Some of the donated items include, 500 exercise books, school uniform for about 100 pupils, school sandals for 50 pupils, writing materials such as Biro, pencils, as well as drawing materials for another 200 students.
Other members of the group at the presentation of the materials are; Mr. Abayomi Adewusi, (Secretary), Vice President, Mr. Idowu Sanni, and the immediate past president, Abayomi Temitope.
