Oba Olusayo Ogungbangbe, the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, has called for financial autonomy for public broadcast media to enhance their efficiency.
He made this plea during a courtesy visit by Radio Nigeria, Gold FM’s management, led by General Manager Mrs. Kemi Oni, to his palace.
The monarch argued that public broadcast media, due to their capital-intensive nature and unique operational requirements, should be exempt from the federal government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) arrangement.
According to the monarch, this autonomy would enable them to overcome bureaucratic hurdles and effectively compete with private sector counterparts.
Oba Ogungbangbe praised Gold FM’s bulletin and Ibe Oni (newspaper review) as the best sources of information in Osun State.
He encouraged staff unity and collaboration with the new General Manager to elevate the station, acknowledging collective effort as essential for success.
The General Manager, Mrs. Olukemi Oni, expressed gratitude for the monarch’s support and guidance, seeking further assistance to advance the station’s progress.
Oba Ogungbangbe assured continued support, noting Gold FM’s importance to Iloko-Ijesa’s pride.
