The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, at the National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has called on the Prospective Corps Members of the 2021 batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course to contribute to their host communities by adding values to it.

He said corps members should endeavour not to pass through the NYSC and their host communities without adding values to it.

He said this in a virtual meeting with prospective corps members of the 2021 batch ‘B’ Stream II nationwide this morning.

The DG also called on the Prospective Corps Members to make use of the NYSC platform as an opportunity to achieve their set objectives in life.

He urged them to be good representatives of themselves, their parents and the NYSC in their Places of Primary Assignments, bearing in mind that the rules and regulations of the their workplace are binding on them.

While addressing the issue of scarcity of jobs in the country, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, urged the Prospective Corps Members to emulate what ex-corps members who keyed into the SAED programme are doing as they are now employers of labour.

He advised them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training seriously so as to be self-reliant, as the NYSC affords them the platforms to access loans from the CBN, Bank of Industry and other financial institutions.

“As a way to prevent the continuous spread of the COVID-19 virus, the DG called on the Prospective Corps Members to shun the misinformation spreading on the social media concerning the virus and protect themselves and their loved ones by getting vaccinated. He said ‘shun the fake news being peddled around on the social media as it is a platform full of misinformation about the virus.”

“The Federal Government has made the vaccines available to NYSC and the State Government so that you can get vaccinated in camp or immediately after the Orientation camp. I want to urge you to make yourself available so that you can protect yourself and others.’

Meanwhile, the Director-General has warned against the indiscriminate use of the Social media, urging them that it carries great punishment. He said,’ use the Social media wisely, use it to promote our unity and national integration. Do not use the Social media to spread fake news. Anything you are not sure of, do not share it.’

Reacting to the trendy news of the corps member who was recently arrested for drugs, the DG urged the Prospective Corps Members to shun drugs and cyber crimes and anything that may bring disrepute to them, and the NYSC.’ As you can see the news of a corps member who was arrested for drugs, he has tarnished his image, he has tarnished his parents’ image and the image of the NYSC. Please do not engage in these nefarious activities.’

While appreciating the Director-General for the address, the Corps Camp Director,NYSC Borno State, in the ongoing 2021 batch’ B’Stream II Orientation Course in Katsina State, Abraham Oladipo Meshac, BO/21B/1126,
said it was a privilege for corps members of the 2021 batch ‘B’ Stream II nationwide to be under the caring and fatherly watch of the Director-General. He assured the Director-General that the corps members will adhere strictly to rules of engagement of the NYSC as enshrined in the NYSC bye laws.

It is important to state that the initiative of creating a leadership platform of the Corps Camp Director office, to function in all Orientation Camps nationwide, in order to foster the leadership qualities of young persons, was made by the Director-General and the NYSC management team of the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.
