The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a 24-year-old bricklayer, Akeem Sulaiman, for allegedly vandalizing property at AUD Secondary School in Iwo, Osun State.

In a release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Kehinde Adeleke, it was stated that Sulaiman, a resident of Aladorun Compound in Iwo, was arrested on Sunday, September 7, 2024, while attempting to sell stolen items to scrap dealers.

The recovered items included 13 stainless steel hand basins, a pumping machine monitoring box, communication cables, stainless trays, and other tools.

Investigations revealed that Sulaiman had worked as a labourer during the school’s construction and had been stealing from construction sites for several years.

The Osun State NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Michael Adaralewa, highlighted that such vandalism is a violation of Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law, which prohibits the wilful destruction of property.

The Commandant assured the public that the suspect will be prosecuted and warned metal scrap buyers to avoid purchasing stolen items, as they too would face legal consequences.

“The suspect will face the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others who destroy government property”.

He added, “I also urge all metal scrap buyers in the state to desist from buying stolen items. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with according to the law”, Adaralewa stated.
