The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has emphasized the need for traditional leaders to put Nigeria first in all decisions and promote peaceful coexistence among people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

The Director-General of NOA, Garba Abari made this known during courtesy visits to two prominent traditional leaders in Lagos state, Eze Nwachukwu, Ezendigbo of Lagos State and Amb. Alh. Ali Kabir Garba, Sariki Hausawa of Lagos State/Chairman Lagos State Council of Arewa Chiefs, as part of its continuous effort in promoting peace and national cohesion in Nigeria.

He noted that what played out during the last elections underscored the need for more peaceful sensitization.

“Lagos is a mini Nigeria and the economic hub of the nation, with a diverse population of people from different ethnic and religious groups. Hence, anything that disturbs the peace of Lagos also disturbs the life-wire of the country”.

The Ezendigbo and Sariki Hausawa both expressed deep gratitude to NOA for the advocacy visit and pledged to work towards promoting peace and one Nigeria. The Ezendigbo stated that politics is the only thing that creates problems in Nigeria, and the traditional institution is ready to work and cooperate towards having a peaceful country.

The Seriki Hausawa, a significant stakeholder, was urged to lead the propagation of messages of peace and harmony throughout the state and the nation.

He expressed the council’s readiness to work with the agency to promote peaceful coexistence between Lagos State’s natives and others.

NOA recognizes the importance of traditional institutions and has made it a strategic communication priority to work closely with them. The agency has been engaging with traditional leaders across the country to promote peace and one Nigeria.
