The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has stated that there is no confirmed date for the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
Students and parents are advised to remain patient and wait for further updates from WAEC. The council assured that efforts are underway to ensure the results are released as soon as possible and with accuracy.
WAEC Communication Officer, Moyosore Adeyegbe, clarified that the rumored August 5 release date is “unofficial.”
“It could be released before or after the mentioned date,” she told PUNCH Online in a phone interview on Tuesday. “The August 5 date has not been verified by the appropriate authorities.”
When asked about the accuracy of the reported date, Adeyegbe explained, “Results are typically released within 45 days of the last paper. Given that August 5 is less than 45 days from the end of the exam, it may not be accurate.”
An examiner, Mr. Abiodun Abubakar, also confirmed that the grading and processing of scripts concluded on Sunday. He suggested that the results might be available in the first weeks of August, with potential delays due to the planned August 1 protest.
Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of the WAEC Lagos Office, had indicated that the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates started on April 30, 2024.
WAEC had previously reduced the processing time for results from 84 days to 45 days with the adoption of Information and Communication Technology. The examination ended on June 20, 2024, making July 30 the 40th day since the exam concluded.
