The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has raised alarm over the rising cost of fuel, accusing marketers of inflating petrol prices and pushing the pump price well above the actual market value.
The NLC argues that Nigerians are being exploited, as the price surge is exacerbating the suffering of citizens already grappling with hunger and economic hardships.
In a communique issued after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the NLC expressed deep concern over the severe economic strain facing the nation.
The congress called for an urgent review of government policies it deemed “anti-people,” warning that the current situation is pushing many Nigerians into destitution.
The NLC also announced that state councils, where the new minimum wage has not yet been implemented, will begin an indefinite strike on December 1, 2024, to protest the failure to address labor issues.
This move underscores the NLC’s growing frustration with the government’s inaction on economic matters affecting workers and citizens alike.
The congress’s statement highlights its commitment to holding both fuel marketers and the government accountable for the ongoing challenges faced by the public, with an emphasis on the urgent need for change.
