The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reiterated its commitment to enhancing national border security, emphasizing the importance of robust border management in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
Speaking at the conclusion of the NIS National Conference in Jos, the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, underscored the service’s resolve to strengthen social and economic stability through effective border operations.
“This conference provided an invaluable opportunity for the NIS and its partners to reflect on our operational challenges and strategize on improving service delivery,” Ms. Nandap stated.
She highlighted that one major outcome of the conference was the resolve to adopt advanced technological solutions for securing borders, which includes streamlined automated systems for visas and passport applications.
Ms. Nandap further explained that aligning NIS operations with the federal government’s goals on foreign direct investments will play a vital role in securing better funding and boosting national economic interests.
“We will also enhance the structure and efficiency of our divisional immigration offices across the 774 local government areas, focusing on intelligence gathering and engagement with border communities,” she added.
The Comptroller-General noted that a primary objective moving forward is to develop a strategic plan that fosters professionalism, patriotism, and seamless service delivery within the NIS, aligning with the values of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She also announced plans to improve the welfare of NIS personnel, especially through better remuneration and continuous training programs aimed at boosting morale and enhancing professional standards within the service.
Concluding the conference, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, expressed gratitude for the state’s selection as the conference venue and pledged ongoing support for NIS initiatives aimed at enhancing border security and managing migration effectively.
