At the direction of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja on Sunday for the United States to represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
President Tinubu assigned this responsibility to the Vice President while he focuses on urgent domestic matters, including addressing the recent devastating flood disaster in the country.
In a statement by Vice President Shettima’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, it was confirmed that Shettima will lead the Nigerian delegation at the high-level global event.
“Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in key meetings on the sidelines of the event, and engage in bilateral meetings,” the statement said.
The General Assembly’s high-level debate, which runs from September 24 to 28, 2024, will be held under the theme “Leaving no one behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”
Vice President Shettima is expected to use this platform to highlight Nigeria’s stance on critical global issues while promoting peace and sustainable development for both present and future generations.
