The Nigerian Army has announced the reopening of Banex Plaza in Wuse, Abuja, following a meeting with the plaza’s leadership and management. The meeting, convened in the Office of the National Security Adviser, addressed the unprovoked attack on Nigerian Army personnel by unidentified hoodlums on May 18, 2024.

The meeting resulted in the closure of Shop C93, and the owners of the shop, who orchestrated the mob attack, are to be arrested and handed over to the Nigerian Police. Market leaders have been instructed to remain vigilant and report any remaining perpetrators to the authorities. The two individuals already arrested have been handed over to the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police for further action.

The Nigerian Army will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the presence of its personnel at the plaza and the subsequent attack. The Army stressed that acts of violence against military personnel are condemnable and pose a significant threat to national security and public order.

The public is urged to exercise caution and restraint when interacting with military personnel and other security operatives, especially when they are in uniform. Established channels are available for reporting grievances or misconduct by personnel to the appropriate authorities.”
