Nigeria, UK to Deepen Diplomatic Relations, As Tinubu Meets King Charles III

President Bola Tinubu met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, marking their first encounter since the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai last year.

The private meeting, initiated by the King, underscored the strong ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

During their discussions, the leaders focused on critical global issues, particularly the pressing challenge of climate change.

They explored collaborative opportunities in preparation for the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.

President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change while balancing the nation’s energy security needs. He expressed Nigeria’s readiness to align with global sustainability strategies.

The dialogue also included innovative approaches to climate financing, with both leaders keen on leveraging Nigeria’s influential role in Africa and the Commonwealth to strengthen partnerships in climate action.
