In a move aimed at revamping the national team, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment comes ahead of the 2025 AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Finidi George, a former Nigerian international player, takes over from Jose Peseiro, who was sacked last month. George has a wealth of coaching experience, having managed several clubs in Nigeria and abroad.
The NFF president, Gusau Amadu, expressed confidence in George’s ability to lead the Super Eagles to success, saying, “Finidi has a deep understanding of Nigerian football and the Super Eagles’ culture. We believe he has the right pedigree to lead the team to victory in the upcoming qualifiers.”
George’s first task will be to prepare the team for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, which begin in June. He will also be expected to lead the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Nigerian football fans are optimistic about the appointment, hoping that George will bring a fresh approach and success to the national team.”
