Ogun State House of Assembly says the essence of the proposed Public Private Partnership Law of Ogun State, 2019 is to open up frontiers of the State through the creation of operational guidelines to allow for stakeholders in the private sector collaborate with government to contribute to the developmental strides in all sectors of the State’s economy.
This was the summation of views of lawmakers who spoke in unison in favour of the bill titled: “A Bill for A Law to provide for Public Private Partnerships, Establish the Office of Public Private Partnerships, Promote the Development of Infrastructure and Service Delivery in Ogun State and for other related matters” during the second reading of the bill at a plenary presided over by Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
While contributing to the debate during the second reading of the bill, which had just scaled first reading, after the Ag. Clerk of the Assembly, Deji Adeyemo read the long title of the bill before the lawmakers, Honourables Kemi Oduwole, Kunle Sobukanla, Olusola Adams, Akeem Balogun and Yusuf Amosun stated that the enactment of bill that would allow for Public and Private sectors’ collaboration to improve infrastructural development, with a view to reducing the financial burden on the part of government to cater for more social services in the State.
They noted that developed nations had consistently taken advantage of public private partnership to improve on all public infrastructure including roads, rail and other public facilities for the benefit of the people, saying that PPP remained a viable approach through which public and private sectors collaborate to promote efficiency.
Other members including Yusuf Adejojo, Ademola Adeniran, Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye and Ganiyu Oyedeji said that the bill, when passed and eventually assented to by Governor Dapo Abiodun, would further boost the confidence of stakeholders and prospective investors to tap into the rich potentials of the State including investments, commerce and tourism.
Responding, Rt. Hon. Oluomo appreciated his colleague-lawmakers for their robust contributions in the course of the second reading of the bill, saying the bill would aid development of infrastructure in all sectors of the State economy and thereafter committed it to the Committee on Commerce, Investment and Industry for further legislative action. He therefore seized the occasion to invite all stakeholders for a public hearing on the bill which would hold on Wednesday, 20th November, 2019 at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Assembly played host to some Nollywood actors led by Abiodun Olanrewaju, lauding them for their artistic works in home movies and television presentations which had helped at instilling social values and morals in the society.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Olanrewaju thanked all the Assembly members for their quality representation and passage of people oriented legislations, soliciting their support in honouring one of the State indigenes, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, who recently attained 60 years for his role as an outstanding actor and producer in the Nollywood.
