NEW AMENDMENT BILLS ON SECURITY, OGROMA SCALE FIRST READING IN OGUN ASSEMBLY

Two bills including the State Security Trust Fund  (Amendment) Law, 2019 and the State Road Management Agency (Amendment) Law, 2019 forwarded to the Ogun State House of Assembly in the last one week by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun have scaled first reading on the floor of the hallowed Chamber of the Assembly.

The bills were read for the first time by the Ag.  Clerk of the Assembly, Deji Adeyemo before the lawmakers at a plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, shortly after the acknowledgement of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s correspondences dated 31st of July and 2nd of August, 2019 respectively conveying the bills to the the Assembly.

The bills are with the long titles: “HB No 002/OG/2019- The State Security Trust Fund  (Amendment) Law, 2019- A Bill for A Law to Amend the Ogun State Security Trust Fund Law, 2011” and “HB No 003/OG/2019- The Ogun State Road Management Agency (Amendment) Law, 2019- A Bill to Amend the Ogun State Road Management Agency Law, 2006 and the amendment thereto of 2007”.  

In another development, Speaker Oluomo has tasked security formations in the State, particularly the State Police Command to invoke relevant sections of the Law Prohibiting Forcible Entry and Occupation of Land Properties, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Cultism and Allied Matters and for other Matters Incidental the thereto or Connected Therewith to check crimes and criminalities across the State.

The Speaker,while responding to the remarks of his Deputy, Dare Kadiri under Personal Explanation, commended  the State Police Command for being proactive and steadfast to security issues reiterating that the State under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun would not be a haven for criminal elements.

He described the law as all-inclusive legislation which provides stringent measures to tackle forceful occupation of landed properties, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other unlawful activities, which if applied to the letter would check nefarious activities of criminals in the State.

Earlier in his report to the Assembly, Hon. Kadiri hinted that rivalry cultist clash in his constituency resulting in loss of lives, hence the need to appeal to security agencies  to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. 

In another development, a member representing Sagamu II State Constituency , Adeniran Ademola laid before the Assembly two petitions bordering on the state of roads in some parts of his Constituency, while his counterpart from Ado Odo Ota II, Musefiu Lamidi submitted two others on illegal toll collection from the Free Trade Zone along Atan-Lusada road at Igbesa and the deplorable state of the Atan-Agbara Road.

In addition, the Assembly’s Minority Leader, Ganiyu Oyedeji submitted another from Agbado- Oke Aro LCDA Stakeholders reporting the closure of exit road to their communities by contractors handling the Federal Government light rail project, just as the Deputy Speaker and a member representing Ijebu North II State Constituency, Dare Kadiri submitted that of the Ifelodun Youth Association on alleged abuse of power by a member of the interim transportation Committee from his constituency.
