The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a strong warning to school owners and other stakeholders against enrolling candidates for its examinations by proxy.

The Council has identified this fraudulent practice as a major contributor to identity theft and the subsequent distribution of fake results.

Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NECO, emphasized that the Council has implemented several measures to combat impersonation in all its examinations.

“Some of the measures include the use of Biometric Data Capturing Devices, customized answer booklets, and embossing candidates’ photographs and dates of birth on original certificates,” he stated.

Sani further noted the introduction of the NECO e-Verify platform, an online tool launched last year for the confirmation and verification of NECO results.

He cautioned, “Members of the public should be aware that any certificate claimed to be issued by the Council that cannot be verified through the NECO e-Verify platform is fake.”

The Council also urged State Ministries of Education and school owners to ensure that only the personal details of genuine candidates are used for registration in all NECO-conducted examinations.

“Candidates found guilty of impersonation in the recently released 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal have had their results withheld,” Sani added.
