The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 626 compressed blocks of cannabis, weighing 500.8 kilograms.

The illicit substances were concealed in an SUV and a Hilux vehicle, both bearing fake presidency number plates, and were seized at the Numan Bridge checkpoint.

The State Commandant of the NDLEA, Agboalu Femi Samson, revealed that the cannabis was being transported from Alagbaka in Akure, Ondo State, to Mubi in Adamawa State.

Speaking about the operation, Samson stated: “The agency maintains a permanent checkpoint at the Numan Bridge with two teams operating round the clock to intercept and cut off drug supplies into the state.”

The Commandant further disclosed that the operation was conducted in collaboration with military personnel stationed at the checkpoint. He added that the suspect involved had been on the agency’s watchlist.

Samson also acknowledged the crucial support of the Adamawa State Government, which has consistently backed the agency’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse.

He said, “The relationship between the state government and the NDLEA has been instrumental in achieving our mandate. This includes public sensitisation programs on the dangers of drug abuse.”

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, visited the scene of the seizure to assess the intercepted contraband. While commending the NDLEA team, Fintiri remarked: “We are committed to supporting the NDLEA in its fight against drug abuse and trafficking. The state will continue to collaborate with the agency to achieve a zero-drug business in Adamawa and Nigeria as a whole.”

Governor Fintiri further encouraged drug users undergoing rehabilitation to desist from their habits to maximize their potential.

During his visit, he inspected rehabilitation cells and newly constructed and renovated buildings at the NDLEA state command.
