Following the revocation of Heritage Bank Plc’s banking license by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has begun the liquidation process. This includes the immediate verification and payment of insured deposits to the bank’s depositors.
In a statement released by Bashir Nuhu, Director of Communication & Public Affairs, the NDIC announced that depositors with alternative accounts in other banks will receive up to N5 million per depositor using their Bank Verification Number (BVN).
For depositors with funds exceeding N5 million, they will receive liquidation dividends once the bank’s assets are realized and debts recovered.
The NDIC advised depositors without alternative bank accounts to visit the nearest Heritage Bank branch with proof of account ownership, identification, and their BVN for verification and payment of insured sums. They can also file claims online by visiting the NDIC website, downloading, and submitting the necessary forms and documentation.
Creditors were advised to file their claims either at the nearest bank branch or online, while debtors were urged to contact the NDIC’s Asset Management Department for loan repayment arrangements.
The NDIC assured the public of its commitment to the safety of their funds in all licensed banks and encouraged depositors to continue their banking activities without fear, as banks with valid licenses remain safe and sound.
