The Nigerian Bar Association, Makurdi Branch, has expressed its desire to partner with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in its fight against corruption.

This desire was expressed on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 by the Chairman of the Association, Barrister Maimuna M. Ikwulono, while on a Courtesy Visit to the Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC.

Ikwulono said the visit was to familiarize her Association with the Zonal Command and to deepen the existing relationship between the NBA and EFCC. According to her, the EFCC ” is a very important institution in Nigeria, fighting economic and financial crimes and that the NBA should be seen as a partner in progress. We think there should be more collaboration like knowledge sharing, seminars, workshops and other related activities between your Commission and the NBA”, she said.

In a response, EFCC Makurdi Zonal Commander, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE Friday Ebelo, called for the observance of the rule of law to safeguard the nation’s democracy. ” The rule of law is a great umbrella that covers everyone of us, the rule of law is a canopy for everybody, we must always embrace the rule of law and protect this democracy that we have, let’s support the government and treat people with a sense of respect”, he said.

He urged the NBA to take ownership of the anti-corruption crusade and avoid being used as a tool by corrupt elements in frustrating the fight, noting that lawyers are strategic to winning the fight against corruption and economic and financial crimes
