The National Human Rights Commission has commended National Youth Service Corps for its roles of integrating youths into the reality of selfless service.
It said the contributions of NYSC to National Unity and socio- economic development of the country cannot be over emphasised.
The Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu stated this during a courtesy visit to NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his office.
While felicitating with the DG on his appointment, the NHRC boss requested for a more robust partnership with the NYSC “The NYSC is the Scheme that is uniting the country’, he stated.
He added that there was the need to create awareness on human rights education and build solid foundation for democracy which would enable people demand for their rights.
Ojukwu requested for the introduction of Human Rights Community Development Service group in NYSC, which he said would make Corps Members aware of their rights and thereafter become advocates of human rights.
He said this would build human rights activism, civil society groups and promote good governance in the country.
NYSC DG, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his response said human rights is important while he commended NHRC for the proposed partnership.
He added that NYSC is a bundle of talents of fresh graduates for National Development.
