National Electricity Grid Collapses Again, Causing Widespread Blackout Across Nigeria

The national electricity grid has suffered another collapse, resulting in a nationwide blackout that has left many without power. According to a statement posted on X by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), the grid failure occurred at 6:58 PM.

In a follow-up, Emeka Ezeh, the spokesperson for the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), confirmed the incident in a statement released Monday evening. He noted that the general system failure took place at 6:48 PM.

“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the EEDC network,” the statement read.

Ezeh elaborated, stating, “Consequently, due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.”

He added that the company is “on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo.”

Additionally, Eko Distribution Company has also confirmed the grid collapse. They communicated with their customers, stating, “Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 18:48hrs which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.”

They reassured customers, saying, “We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored. Kindly bear with us.”
