The Nasarawa State Government announced on Monday that it has identified 29 suspected cases of cholera in the Kokona and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas.
The Commissioner for Health, Gaza Gwamna, disclosed this during the opening of a 3-day workshop on Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health organized by Rotary International in Akwanga LGA.
Gwamna stated that Kokona LGA reported 19 suspected cases while Nasarawa Eggon LGA recorded 10 cases. Regrettably, one patient from Nasarawa Eggon LGA died while receiving treatment at a local healthcare facility.
He emphasized that cholera symptoms can resemble those of other illnesses, and definitive diagnosis requires laboratory tests. Gwamna urged caution in assuming all diarrhoea cases are cholera until confirmed by medical tests.
The commissioner expressed gratitude to Rotary International for organizing the workshop and urged participants to effectively report health challenges affecting women and children in Nasarawa State.
Toyosi Adebambo, the Project Manager of Rotary International Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health, highlighted the workshop’s objective to enhance media practitioners’ skills in reporting RMCH issues accurately and informatively.
